Creative block...unblocked.

My lack of posting is due to a CREATIVE BLOCK that I've been suffering from. A brick wall that I've been running into every time I try to make anything crafty. :(
But, Success! I made a scrapbook page tonight.

I made the brown flower out of felt and a pearl. Super easy and cute.
The white ruffle is pleated tissue paper.
Bought a Crop-A-Dile yesterday and used it for the eyelets on the lefthand side of the page.

TFL and may your creativity flow freely!

Tidbits

Random things....
Finished my LO for Chelsea's monthly challenge.
Challenge: Use the colours blue, green and brown.

(yeah, so I'm still trying to get the hang of taking GOOD pictures of my projects. WIP)
The envelope has a paper with this quote inside: Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.
-Franklin D. Roosevelt
Sidenote: I've started to really care about how my LOs look in pictures...suddenly. I am trying to get used to the whole editing thing. Cropping, rotating, exposure etc is pretty tricky. Any ideas or tricks for getting really good pictures of SBing projects and editing them???
TFL!!

Creativity? A Giveaway?

Hi. :)

I've been trying to work on some monthly creative challenges and have gotten 2 done today!

Not the kind of page I usually do but it's good to step outside of the creative box occasionally.

I layered fabric, soft mesh, crate restoration paper and brads.

Next:

The yellow words in the title say "is hard to do". (singsong voice "Breaking up is haaard toooo dooo.")
Used a sketch for this layout as well. (sidenote: I actually have a hard time following sketches...am I the only one?)

One more thing...there is a GREAT giveaway/contest-ish thing on the Obsessed with Scrapbooking blog. :) Even though hundreds of people have entered to win the PINK CRICUT EXPRESSION up for grabs, might as well give it a shot! (and spread the love.)

Gift Wrapping Love

The new gift wrapping line from LIITD is just so cute. So many cute products that can be used for a bunch of different crafts! Here is what I made with a few of the supplies.
Pillow box, bag, doilies, music note paper, baker's twine and leaves are from the new line.

So sweet! The products will be available in their online store very soon.

14 hours of scrapbooking? :D

Raining, raining, raining today! Time for a blog post.

I went to an all day crop in Miami, Manitoba on Saturday. (hosted by LIITD)

I got 4 pages and a card done. Not as much as I usually do, but I think it's because I spent so much time shopping and doing the demo.

Now I have some monthly challenges to work on. :)

Let us eat cake. :)

Hi. :)
Although I enjoy cooking, I'm not very skilled in the art of baking...at all. But regardless of that small tidbit of fact, I decided to bake a cake this afternoon. Double layer carrot pumpkin with brown sugar cream cheese icing. It actually didn't turn out bad!
Sooo, my icing technique could use some work...;)

Mmmmmm....
Loved the pumpkin in it and it smelled super good while it was baking.
I can sure tell it's Fall...I raked a billion piles of leaves in the front yard today. :)

My Lola was veerryyy happy to frolic around in the leaves. =))
Hoping to get some scrapping in tonight. Bought some new supplies today and I can't wait to use them!

World Cardmaking Day 2010

Yes, I made 2 cards to celebrate WCMD...and I'm entering them in draws. (Hey, might as well benefit from it LOL.)
First one:
Made entirely from American Crafts products. (minus the cardstock) Paper, ribbon, brads, felty flowers, rubons, pens, chipboard letters, journaling sticker. All AC!
Second:

A gift card holder for a Creative Team Challenge over at http://www.loveisinthedetails.ca/ Made it a little bigger so I could slip a little note inside as well. :)

Happy Cardmaking Day!!

Online Cropping. I love it.

Participated in an online crop last week. It had started at the beginning of September but I didn't find out about it until a few days before the deadline. Worked like a crazed scrapping lunatic to get some pages finished because the prizes for the challenges were just AWESOME. Seriously, I was frantically trying to scrap and upload pictures for it 10 minutes before the deadline. (BTW, the laptop I was trying to upload pictures on to froze up at about 11:49pm...deadline was 11:59pm. Yeah, you can imagine.) I had worked like crazy in between school, work and church to finish at least a few pages. Pity any person who interrupts Brookie while she is immersed in the scrapbooking creative process. :)
Anyways, just figured I would share a few of the pages I submitted...the winners are being announced Sunday evening!

Challenge: make a page about your mom. (I chose to highlight my mom's sense of humour. BTW I love puns. Clearly.)

Challenge: Use a supply that you have been hoarding. (I used this B&W flocked paper that I have had for MONTHS. I love it, and even now only used a small piece. Wonder if they would consider doing a "Scrapbooking Hoarders" series?  Pretty sure I could qualify. ;) )

Challenge: Design your own patterned paper. (I made the little square of paper in the upper left corner. Maybe a little bit of a cop-out to use such a small piece...but w/e it works. :) Please notice that I pushed myself and used another small piece of that B&W flocked paper...maybe I'm not cut out for "Scrapbooking Hoarders" after all...)

Challenge: Use something unique that you didn't buy at LIITD Scrapbooking store- the site hosting the crop. (I totally stepped out of my comfort zone for this LO...when do I ever not use a grid or a lot of white space?? Never! And I love the rainbow musical notes paper. )

So, there is some of my "latest work". Hope you liked it! :)
Oh and tomorrow is National Cardmaking Day. Regardless of my lack of cardmaking talent I will be scrappily obligated to make one...and post it on my blog....out of duty to my craft...oh the poor soul who will receive my card. :D

Movie Quotes Much?

Decided to do a blog post about something other than scrapbooking. So, another of my favourite things. :) Movie quotes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Bizu: [referring to Gluant] "And now he's pushing up the daisies."
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: "He is not 'pushing up the daisies,' he is DEAD!"
Bizu: [glares] "It's an idiom!"
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: "You, sir, are the idiom.
" - The Pink Panther
Ponton: He was just found dead in a training facility locker room. Shot in the head.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: Was it fatal?
Ponton: Yes.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: How fatal?
Ponton: Um, completely.
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: I want to talk to him now! -The Pink Panther
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is this? A centre for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read... if they can't even fit inside the building?  -Zoolander
Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty.-Zoolander

[Takes urinal cake out of mouth]
Melman: Free mints!-Madagascar

Alex: And I'm sure you won't mind when I tell you...
Marty: What? Tell me what?
Alex: I broke your iPod!
Marty: What?
Alex: The buttons were so small! It made me mad!
Marty: The horror!
Alex: It was an accident!
Marty: I'm gonna kill you!   -Madagascar 2
Stop him! He's carrying scissors and hand cream!-Madagascar 2
This is first class. Nothing personal. It's just that we're better than you. -Madagascar 2
The friendly Gods eat up the sacrifice... Mmm very nice, thank you for that sacrifice... Please have another sacrifice! No No I've had enough for today... "Look I will be very insulted if you dont have another sacrifice!" "I DONT WANT ANOTHER SACRIFICE OK!?!?" "Look at you, you look skinny!" "No, I said I've had enough, now clear off. :Madagascar 2

But my life is good! Really good! I get to wake up every morning, at 5AM, and make some soup! It's the best. I love it. I get to lay in a bed, all by myself, all of my life! That's fantastic! Go. Go away! Read some books! -Nacho Libre
Nacho: Those guys were a couple of wussies, eh?
Esqueleto: They scalped my hairs, okay? I look hideous. And you gave them permission to hurt me like this -Nacho Libre

Brick Tamland: I love... desk.
Ron Burgundy: Brick, are you just looking at things in the office and saying that you love them?
Brick Tamland: I love lamp.
Ron Burgundy: Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying it because you saw it?
Brick Tamland: I love lamp. I love lamp. -Anchorman
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bill: Ted, while I agree that, in time, our band will be most triumphant. The truth is, Wyld Stallyns will never be a super band until we have Eddie Van Halen on guitar.
Ted: Yes, Bill. But, I do not believe we will get Eddie Van Halen until we have a triumphant video.
Bill: Ted, it's pointless to have a triumphant video before we even have decent instruments.
Ted: Well, how can we have decent instruments when we don't really even know how to play?
Bill: That is why we NEED Eddie Van Halen!
Ted: And THAT is why we need a triumphant video.
Bill, Ted: EXCELLENT! - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Grim Reaper: I believe Colonel Mustard did it in the study with the candlestick.
Dead Bill: Sorry, death, you lose! It was Professor Plum!
Grim Reaper: I said Plum!
Dead Ted: No way! You said Mustard! Can we go back now?
Grim Reaper: Uh, best three out of five!
Dead Ted: I don't believe this guy!  - Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
This lovely lady is the Grim Reaper.  - Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whew! That is a very small portion of my favourite movie quotes...I'm thinking I'm going to do a quote a day or something instead of just big blocks of useless info. :)

The Motivator. (not the Wipeout kind)

I get motivated to scrapbook in tons of ways. A new edition of Creating Keepsakes, reorganizing my scrap supplies, ideas on blogs, etc. But the biggest motivator for me is crops. Whether they are online or full day, I always come out with a ton of new pages and ideas.
That being said, I was extremely excited to see that Love is in the Details (scrapbooking store), is hosting an online crop this week. Link : Online crop information. The great prizes are also a huge motivator. ;)
I'm also attending their Harvest Ball Scrapbooking Crop at the end of October. Yeah, you could say that I'm a tad bit excited. Okay...A LOT excited!!!
Anyways, I really need to get cracking on the challenges that I haven't even started...considering that the deadline is on Sunday. :) I want to do challenges # 1, 2, 4, 5,6, 7, and 8. Time to create!
What is your biggest scrapbooking motivator?

The Phaaaantom of the Opera is Here....

My sister and I are throwing a Phantom of the Opera (known as POTO from now on) soiree this weekend. We, along with most of our friends, love this musical and know the songs by heart. <3
"Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind..." Sorry, I'm easily distracted. :)
Made up 7 of these nifty little invitations this afternoon. (nothing better than a tall pumpkin spice latte, music and scrapbooking.)
A few pics:

9.21.2010

so it begins...

First LO to be published on this blog. Pretty excited I must say.

Welcome to Blogland...

Testing 1..2...3...:)
I never realized how much work it was to make or have a blog. Templates, design, headers, blinkies, posting, etc etc etc! Head is spinning from information overload.
I plan to write thoughts, everyday happenings, share my crafting/scrapbooking projects and anything else I want I suppose...isn't that the point of a blog after all? To share with others?
I have no clue if ANYONE in the world cares what a teenager living in the most boring town in the world has to say, but here goes nothing. Welcome to Blogland Brookie.
